Built to your specification.

Custom product development

Special-purpose equipment, fixtures and components, designed and built to your specification.

Sometimes the equipment you need doesn’t exist off the shelf, or the unit you rely on is no longer made. We design and build special-purpose equipment, components and assemblies to your specification, from a one-off test fixture to a replacement for an obsolete assembly.

Every project starts with a written requirement, so we agree what “done” means before design starts. You see and approve the design, test the prototype, and receive the results against the specification.

What we work on

Typical equipment and work.

Not listed? Ask. If it’s within our skills and we can test it properly, we’ll take it on, and tell you honestly if we can’t.

What we build

  • Special-purpose test fixtures and test setups
  • Interface and adapter units
  • Control panels for specific processes
  • Replacement designs for obsolete assemblies

What we start from

  • Your specification or tender requirement
  • An existing unit that needs replacing
  • Drawings, sample parts or a description of the job
  • Constraints on size, power, environment and cost

How we deliver it

Whichever route suits the job.

At our workshop

Send or bring the unit. We inspect it, tell you what’s wrong and what it will take, repair it, test it and return it with a report.

At your site

Our engineers come to you for installation, commissioning, repairs and scheduled maintenance visits.

Process

How a project runs.

  1. Requirement

We write down what the product must do, the environment it will work in, and how it will be tested.

  2. Feasibility

We confirm it can be built to the requirement, and flag risks, open questions and long-lead parts early.

  3. Design

Electrical, mechanical and, where needed, software design, reviewed with you before we build.

  4. Prototype

A working prototype, built and checked in our workshop.

  5. Testing and validation

Tested against the agreed specification, with the results recorded.

  6. Handover

Delivery with documentation, and small-batch production if you need more than one.

What you get

Documented at every step.

Every repair carries a written warranty. The period is stated on your quotation.

  • A written understanding of the requirement before design starts
  • A feasibility view, including any risks or open questions
  • A prototype for testing and approval
  • Test results against the agreed specification
  • Drawings, a manual or wiring details, as agreed

Questions

Custom development: frequently asked.

What information do you need to start?

A description of what the product must do and where it will be used. A specification, tender document, drawing or an existing unit helps a lot. We’ll ask questions to fill the gaps and write down the requirement before design starts.

Can you replace an assembly that’s no longer made?

Often, yes. If you have the old unit, we can study how it works and design a replacement that fits and performs the same job, tested against the original’s behaviour.

Who owns the design?

That’s agreed in writing before work starts, along with confidentiality. Many customers need to own the design or restrict its use, and we’re used to working that way.

Can you make more than one?

Yes, small batches can be built once the prototype is approved. Tell us the quantity you expect at the start, because it can affect design choices.

Got a unit that’s down?

Tell us the make, model and fault, and we’ll reply within one working day with questions or next steps.
